Physical Science

· X-ray Crystallography - Expert knowledge of X-ray crystallography and diffractometry, reciprocal lattice photography, accurate data collection and structure determination. Good understanding of computer controlled instrumentation. Able to do instrument maintenance and trouble shooting.

· Spectroscopic and Physical Characterization Experience - 31 P and 1 H NMR spectroscopy (routine and some experience with T 1 relaxation measurements), IR, UV-VIS, ESR, fast atom bombardment mass spectroscopy. · Designed and implemented a well integrated computing environment for X-ray Facility using networked graphics (X11), networked printing facilities, dial up service using PPP, file sharing via NFS.

· Assisted NMR Facility Director in implementing an NFS environment (IRIX, Solaris, SunOS) for NMR Laboratory.

Interprocess Communication for client program was performed using SYSV IPC style message queues.

· Write software to interface crystallographic program packages, or to perform specialized calculations ( e.g. analysis of data from twinned crystals) using both FORTRAN and C.

· Performed bug fixes and submitted patches (FORTRAN) to Dr. Peter S. White for the NRCVAX crystallographic software package.

· Wrote a UNIX C program to debug serial port (termios) communication between Nonius CAD4 interface and diffractometer control software using pseudoterminals and SYSV IPC (shared memory, semaphores).

· Wrote "chi90s" and "hichi", C programs to find high c valued reflections given single crystal orientation matrix..

· Created easily upgradable NRCVAX package for Linux using the RedHat Package Management (RPM) software.
